In the year (Summer 2023-2024) we spent in the lower unit on State Street we found it incredibly cozy and comfortable. I know it sounds cliche; but it truly felt like home. It's a solid old house that has seen a lot of renovations over the years; each one adding new charms and quirks. It stays cool in the summer, holds heat well in the winter, and has huge windows for letting in the sun or a breeze. Even though it's a half-basement, there were very few bugs inside during our entire stay. I put sticky traps down out of habit when we moved in and ended up never needing to replace them. The huge yard is its own biome ungoverned by the laws of nature. In December the lawn was green and lush while the rest of the neighborhood was yellow and dead. In February the neighbors' yards were white with snow. Ours was white with flowers. The wildlife are friendly and numerous too. We befriended the local squirrels, were frequently visited by deer, and even met the occasional bunny.
Renting isn’t just about
the building though! You still have to contend with management. This
was the other high point of the experience, and what made me feel
compelled to write a review. From the moment we first applied we were
throwing unusual circumstances and special requests their way, and
they were always willing to work with us. They were very hands-off
(though always quick to respond if we needed something), gave us our
space, and provided ample notice if they did need to come in. Which
was always a treat, because the gentleman that maintains the place is
wonderful. Toward the end of our lease, though we would have loved to
stay, my roommate and I needed to move closer to work. When finding a
new place turned out much more difficult than we expected, the
management were incredibly kind and flexible in letting us extend for
a few months.
I cannot overstate how much the grace and
understanding they gave us throughout our stay defined the entire
year, and I would recommend renting from them without hesitation. In
short: Come for the building, and stay for the people (and
squirrels)!

I lived at 710 NE Oak St
from 2018-2020 and 2021-2022. I was a WSU student for those years and
graduated with the class of 2022. I really liked my experience at 710,
the location was perfect since it was so close to campus and also close
to Main St. (where I worked while living in Pullman). It was also
perfect because I was so close to everything while not having to deal
with all of the noise from Greek Row, despite being so close to Greek
Row. I was looking for a new place to live and was burnt out from having
roommates, I saw a listing on Craigslist for 710 and the rest is
history!
The units I lived in were really nice, I loved that they had a large window which brightened up the space.
Overall, I loved making my space a home and the
management was really helpful. The landlord was always incredibly
accommodating and understanding. Bill was also really great and quickly
responded to any issues. Unlike other places I’ve lived, where I had to
wait weeks for assistance with
repairs and such, Bill would help right away and any
issues were resolved quickly. Once, when I got my keys stuck in my
doorknob and wasn’t able to get inside my apartment, he was able to come
within an hour to help me out!
One thing I really appreciate about HW is that you deal with actual people instead of a faceless company
in charge of your building. Everyone at HW actually cares about wanting you to be happy with your
apartment and want you to have a good experience. I would definitely recommend 710 to anyone who
is focused on their education and work, who want to be close to the WSU campus while not having to
deal with loud neighbors in and outside their building. I’m grateful that I was able to live in 710 for much
of my years in Pullman!

I had wanted to move to an apartment closer to the WSU campus from another apartment and I was in the process of trying to find a suitable one. After I visited the apartment on 710 NE Oak Street over a year ago I was right away impressed with the location. It is one of the apartments closest to the WSU campus. The apartment is almost adjacent to the backyard of the WSU president's house. The management enforces the rules so that the apartment is kept quiet, and keeps the apartment safe by requiring the code on a door lock to enter the apartment. The apartment has a laundry room with washers and dryers. [The manager] not only keeps routine maintenance, but also anticipates maintenance needs. It was also such a thoughtful surprise and really nice touch to receive gifts which included a Christmas card, candies, and other items, before the holiday season from [the owner]. I would recommend the apartment on 710 NE Oak Street as an ideal option for those who want to live walking distance to your classrooms, and to enjoy peaceful and quiet surroundings. Thank you [the owner] [the manager] for the good work!
Happy Resident, 2021
The close proximity from Oak St Apartments to the school [WSU] was what initially caught my attention. [The manager] helped me by showing me the studios and being informative during the application process. The conversations with [the owner] via email were also helpful! My favorite thing about living at my studio on Oak was my space! I loved the design, my new shower, new fridge and the quiet environment. It’s perfect for one independent person to live in and I had a lot of fun decorating it to fit my needs. If anything ever needed fixing the manager always took care of it right away. I loved it so much I recommended two of my friends to live there as well and they were happy tenants. I found the experience very easy-going and I would highly recommend Oak St. Apartments.
